Hurricanes defeat Duke 40-21 as Brad Kaaya makes UM history

UM finishes 8-4 in Mark Richt's 1st season

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. ā€“ University of Miami Hurricanes quarterback Brad Kaaya took over in a dominant and decisive third quarter to lead the 'Canes past Duke 40-21.

The Hurricanes finished the season with four consecutive wins.

Kaaya finished with four touchdown passes and a season-high 396 yards passing, which helped him surpass Ken Dorsey as the all-time leader in passing yards in Miami history.

The /Canes expanded their 2-point halftime lead in that third quarter thanks to a 76-yard touchdown pass from Kaaya to David Njoku that gave UM a 23-14 lead.Ā 

Kaaya added another touchdown pass in the third quarter, a 3-yard strike to Stacy Coley, that saw the 'Canes take a commanding 30-14 lead.

The 'Canes didn't settle for that lead as KaayaĀ and Njoku connected on a 58-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that ballooned the lead to 40-14.

Miami kicker Michael Badgley kicked two field goals in the second quarter that had the 'Canes leading 16-14 at the half.

Duke quarterback Daniel Jones opened the second quarter with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Young for a 14-10 lead.

Kaaya threw a 30-yard touchdown to Mark Walton for a 10-7 lead with three minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Duke took a 7-3 lead in the first quarter when Jones threw a 6-yard touchdown to JohnathanĀ Lloyd.

The 'Canes took an early 3-0 lead after a Michael BadgleyĀ 47-yard field goal.
