CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami has dismissed two potential starters from the football team for violating NCAA rules, according to a Saturday announcement.

Hurricanes defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad and linebacker Jermaine Grace have been kicked off the team amid reports they were being investigated for receiving improper benefits from a luxury car rental establishment.

"The decision was made in consultation with outside counsel and after discussions with the NCAA enforcement staff," a team statement said.

Miami will continue to provide financial aid for Muhammad and Grace through graduation.

Muhammad was a fourth-year junior who finished third on the team with 54 total tackles last season. He started seven games a season ago and was expected to start for the Hurricanes in 2016.

Grace was entering his senior year after starting 10 games and finishing with a team-best 79 tackles last season.

"As no staff members or boosters were involved in the violations, the program will not be subject to sanctions and, at this time, the university deems this matter closed," the statement said.
