"I have given James a full and unconditional release, and I want to wish him the very best in his future moving forward," first-year head coach Mark Richt said in a statement.

King becomes the sixth Miami player to leave the program since Richt was hired in December. He joins offensive lineman Tyler Grimsley, wide receiver Tyler Brady, running back Walter Tucker, tight end Jerome Washington and linebacker Marques Gayot.

King's only action last season came against Bethune-Cookman, Nebraska and Cincinnati, mostly on special teams. He signed with the Hurricanes in 2015 over Florida Atlantic, Central Florida and Arkansas after leading Booker T. Washington Senior High School to a state championship.
