Orlando to host ACC football championship

ACC title game moved from Charlotte, North Carolina

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – The Atlantic Coast Conference football championship game is returning to Florida.

Camping World Stadium in Orlando will play host to this year's ACC Championship, the conference announced Thursday.

The game was moved from Charlotte, North Carolina, because of the state's controversial law that requires transgender people to use public bathrooms that match the gender on their birth certificates.

Camping World Stadium, which underwent a $208 million renovation that was completed in April 2015, hosted No. 12 Florida State for its season opener against Mississippi. It is also host to the Citrus Bowl and the Russell Athletic Bowl, both of which are affiliated with the ACC.

This will mark the sixth time that the ACC title game has been played in Florida. Jacksonville hosted the first three games (2005-07) and Tampa hosted the next two (2008-09).

Camping World Stadium has about 10,000 fewer seats than Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium.

The game will be played at 7:45 p.m. Dec. 3 on ESPN or at 8 p.m. on Local 10. Tickets will first be made available to those who previously purchased tickets when the game was to be played in Charlotte. Tickets to the general public will go on sale at 10 a.m. Oct. 10.
