Kenny Holmes to coach defensive line for Panthers in 2017

MIAMI ā€“ Another former University of Miami player is reuniting with his former coach at Florida International.

FIU announced Thursday that Kenny Holmes will join new head football coach Butch Davis' staff as defensive line coach.

"Kenny Holmes will bring a ton of experience in developing and coaching our defensive line," Davis said. "I'm thrilled to have him as an assistant coach here at FIU. I coached Kenny in college and saw him go onto become a first-round draft pick and have a successful NFL career."

Holmes comes to FIU after two seasons as defensive line coach at Idaho.

He becomes the fifth member of Davis' coaching staff, along with wide receivers coach Kevin Beard, defensive coordinator Brent Guy, secondaries coach Bobby Babich and running backs coach Tim Harris Jr.

Holmes was picked by the Tennessee Oilers in the first round of the 1997 NFL draft. He spent four seasons with Tennessee and three seasons with the New York Giants, ending his NFL career with 289 tackles and 39 sacks.
