MIAMI ā€“ Florida International University made a big splash Tuesday, officially introducing Butch Davis as its next head football coach.

Davis was the head coach at the University of Miami from 1995-2000. He left the Hurricanes to become the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Davis also coached at the University of North Carolina from 2007-2010. Ā The school was rocked by an academic scandal during Davis' tenure.

"Tammy and I, in some respects, are coming home," Davis said. "South Florida has been a home for us for many, many years. If you look at an opportunity to get back into coaching, you couldn't visualize a better opportunity than FIU."

Davis thinks there is a huge alumni base that can be tapped into in South Florida.

"I've already started talking to (athletic director) Pete (Garcia)," Davis said. "We have to double-deck this stadium. Ā It's not going to nearly be big enough."

Davis said he addressed the team. He said the Panthers are hungry for success and want to win.
