The 25-member recruiting class was highlighted by linebacker Dontavious Jackson from Houston and American Heritage School defensive end Brian Burns.

Burns is one of 13 players from the state of Florida to sign with the Seminoles. Coral Gables Senior High School running back Amir Rasul and Miami Norland Senior High School linebacker Emmett Rice also signed with Florida State.

Four-star quarterback Malik Henry from California was one of seven early enrollees.

Despite hauling in the top-rated class according to ESPN, the Seminoles missed out on four-star Miami Central Senior High School safety Jamal Cook, who commited to Florida State last February. The cousin of Florida State star running back Dalvin Cook opted to head west to play for the USC Trojans.

"We feel like the guys we've evaluated were very comfortable in the guys we were able to get and the guys we wanted," Fisher said at a news conference to discuss the recruiting class. "Like I said, would you get everybody? You don't ever get everybody you recruit, but I don't worry about those. I worry about the ones we've gotten."

Fisher praised his coaches for forging lasting relationships with recruits, some as long as five years. He said their persistence helped the Seminoles earn the ranking that they did.

"We know where we're at," Fisher said. "We hear it, but it doesn't matter. I worry about -- I want to rank the classes after they leave. That's what I'm worried about -- what they accomplish, what they did, how we won and how they developed as people, students and players."
