DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Florida State and Clemson won't meet until October, but the Seminoles have already overtaken the Tigers in the rankings.
The Seminoles became the new No. 2 team in The Associated Press and coaches poll released Sunday.
Clemson, which began the season as the second-ranked team, dropped to No. 5 after a four-point win against Troy.
Florida State began the season ranked No. 4 and moved up a spot after a 45-34 win against then-No. 11 Mississippi in Orlando. The Seminoles beat Charleston Southern 52-8 to improve to 2-0.
Also new to the top 10 is Louisville, which smashed Syracuse 62-28. The 10th-ranked Cardinals host FSU next weekend.
No. 23 Florida also returned to the AP top 25 after a one-week absence. No. 25 Miami took Florida's spot after the Gators struggled against Massachusetts and the Hurricanes smashed Florida A&M in their season openers.
The Gators opened Southeastern Conference play Saturday with a 45-7 victory against Kentucky. The Hurricanes defeated Florida Atlantic 38-10.
