Soccer star David Beckham visited Local 10 in Pembroke Park Wednesday to discuss his latest plans on bringing a soccer stadium to downtown Miami.
Beckham was in Miami earlier in the day to meet with county commissioners and win their support for the Major League Soccer stadium. He discussed the proposed PortMiami site and the mayor's suggested alternative.
Beckham and his team have encountered resistance from Royal Caribbean Cruises and other business and community leaders who say a stadium at the port would hurt cargo and cruise operations. Mayor Carlos Gimenez sent Beckham's consultant a letter Monday suggesting they consider an alternative site near the AmericanAirlines Arena.
"It's gone from having one great possible location to two, so we're very happy," Beckham told Local 10.
Beckham did not say which site he would prefer. He added that he wants the stadium to be positive for the city.
