David Beckham visits Miami, meets members of Brazil national soccer team

Retired English soccer superstar reported to start major league expansion team

MIAMI ā€“ The soccer world seems to be converging on Miami.

Retired English soccer superstar David Beckham paid a visit on Tuesday to the Marriott Marquis in downtown Miami to greet members of the Brazil national soccer team, in town for its Saturday match against Honduras.

Beckham, reported to start a major league expansion team in Miami, also posed with fans in the hotel lobby.

One fan shouted, "Hey, Beckham, when's the team coming down to Miami?"

"Ah, we'll see," Beckham replied. The lobby erupted in laughter.

Beckham was invited to a dinner with Mayor Carlos Gimenez and businessman Marcelo Claure, but the mayor's spokesperson said Beckham's attendance was not confirmed.

Major League Soccer still must approve an expansion team in Miami. Beckham will reportedly pay $25 million to start an MLS team.
