Dolphins fire Mike Sherman

Team announces offensive coordinator has been released

DAVIE, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins have fired offensive coordinator Mike Sherman.

"I would like to thank Mike for contributions to the Miami Dolphins," said head coach Joe Philbin in a statement. "Mike has been a mentor to me throughout my coaching career, dating back to 1979.  He is a man of great integrity, dedicated to his family, his team, his players, and his profession.  On behalf of the entire Miami Dolphins organization I want to wish Mike and his family the very best in the future."

The Dolphins ranked 27th in the NFL in Total Offense in 2013 with 5007 yards, averaging just 19.8 points per game.

With two games left in the regular season, the Dolphins were poised to make their first trip to the NFL Playoffs in five seasons. However, the offense scored just a combined 7 points in the two games against Buffalo and the N.Y. Jets and finished the season at 8-8.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has spent the last week meeting with his advisors regarding any moves he may make with the team's coaching and managerial staff.

It's not known if firing Sherman is the only move the team will make or if others will be coming.
