Florida Panthers hosting 'Equality Night'

Panthers partnering with You Can Play project

SUNRISE, Fla. – At a young age, Florida Panthers account executive Brandon Loker knew he wanted to have a career in sports.

"I'm just being myself. I'm doing what I love. I love sports -- it's my passion -- and I happen to be gay," said Loker. "I love sports. Why would I not want to do something I love because some people are going to talk? Yes, this sport is dominated by heterosexual, white males, but that shouldn't stop me from being who I am and showing that I have a voice and that I can make a difference."

This Saturday against the Minnesota Wild, the Panthers are partnering with the You Can Play project and hosting "Equality Night."

"I'll have a smile on my face all night. It'll be an awesome night," said Loker.

Some of the proceeds from the game will go to support You Can Play, a group "dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation."
