Hurricanes fall short of Coaches' Preseason Poll

Gators and 'Noles rank in the Top 12

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – With kickoff of the college football season still weeks away, the USA Today Coaches' Preseason Poll has arrived just in time to get fans hyped or humbled for the season.

Unfortunately, the Miami Hurricanes are on the outside looking in at the Top 25; finishing with 101 points, 34 less than 25th ranked Oregon State.

Despite their offensive woes a season ago, the coaches think highly enough of the Florida Gators to rank them 10th overall, while the Florida State Seminoles show up in 12th.

Defending BCS Champion Alabama once again tops the rankings, receiving 58 of the first-place votes. Second-ranked Ohio State picked up 3 first-place votes with sixth-ranked Texas A&M and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel collecting the remaining top vote.

The University of Central Florida (2) was the only other state school to receive a vote.

The Canes will get an early crack at moving into the rankings when they face the Gators at Sun Life Stadium on September 7.
