MIAMI - The Miami Marlins won't officially "play ball" in their new stadium until April, but the team has announced a set of three exhibition baseball games in March which will be the diamond debut of the park.
The very first baseball game to be played in the new stadium will be a battle between rivals Christopher Columbus High School and Belen Jesuit on Monday, March 5. The Marlins will then play their first game at Marlins Park when they face the University of Miami on Tuesday, March 6 followed by an exhibition against FIU on Wednesday, March 7.
Capacity for the high school game will be limited to 5,000 while the capacity for the Marlins exhibition games will be expanded to 10,000. Tickets for the UM and FIU games will go on-sale on January 27 at marlins.com.
The recently renamed Miami Marlins will take the field for the first time in a regular season game on April 4 when they face the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals.
