Miami Heat unveil military theme uniforms

Alternate uniforms part of team's 'Home Strong' program

MIAMI, Fla. – The Miami Heat are getting patriotic with their new military-style alternate uniforms.

Sports Illustrated released photos of the new uniforms Tuesday. The uniforms are part of the Heat's "Home Strong" program and will be worn on the court three times the week of Veterans Day.

The uniforms are military green and beige with red-and-white accents. The players' names have a sewn-on look similar to that of a military uniform.

Heat president Pat Riley started the "Home Strong" program in 2006 in appreciation for military veterans and soldiers. The program honors veterans and families at Heat home games and gives thousands of care packages to soldiers.

The alternate uniforms will be worn Nov. 8 against Toronto, Nov. 10 against the Los Angeles Lakers and Nov. 12 against Utah.
