Miami Marlins to welcome rookie of the year's 'Abuelita Olga'

Jose Fernandez is set to throw first pitch on opening day

LITTLE HAVANA, Fla. – The Miami Marlins was ready Friday to welcome "Abuelita Olga" to the ballpark for another emotional moment.

Olga Fernandez's grandson 21-year-old Jose Fernandez will be throwing the first pitch of the season Monday. And she plans to be there.

"Fernandez will officially become the youngest pitcher in Marlins history," The Miami Marlins said on their website.

Fernandez had not seen his "Abuelita Olga" since he left Santa Clara, Cuba for Tampa when he was 15. In November, the Miami Marlins organized a surprise reunion and the MLB captured the moment.

His "Abuelita Olga" was also present when he was named National League Rookie of the Year.

On Friday, the Miami Marlins tweeted "Abuelita Olga"  was at the bullpen session in Tampa Bay.

In honor of social media "Flashback Friday," here is The MLB Network capturing the magical moment in the video below.
