The Coast Guard released a letter sent to the senator on Friday, and said that the last Waterways Analysis and Management System study was completed in November 2015, after the Army Corps of Engineers deepened the main channel.

Coast Guard officials said the study found that the "Aids to Navigation (ATON) in Government Cut met the needs of the mariner."

"The Coast Guard is now commissioning a new WAMS analysis, focusing specially on the North and South jetties at the entrance to the Government Cut Channel, which will include verification of appropriate illumination for these structures," the letter said.

It's unclear when the analysis is expected to be completed.
