Miami Marlins beat writer Juan Rodriguez has died after a battle with cancer.

MIAMI – Marlins beat writer Juan C. Rodriguez has died after a battle with cancer.

He was 42.

Rodriguez was diagnosed with December 2012.

He is survived by his wife Tiffany and two children.

Rodriguez underwent several surgeries and continued to cover the Marlins for the Sun Sentinel.

There was an outpouring of love and respect for Rodriguez on twitter.

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal wrote, "RIP Juan Rodriguez, Good man, fine reporter, thoughts with his family."

ESPN's Jon Schiambi wrote, "Really sad to hear about the passing of Sun Sentinel writer Juan Rodriguez.  Kind, gentle, first class human RIP."

The Miami Herald's Michelle Kaufman wrote, "So sad to hear about the passing of Sun-Sentinel sportswriter Juan Rodriguez, formerly of the MiamI Herald.  Great guy, dad, husband, writer."

The Marlins wrote, "We are saddened by the loss of Sun Sentinel Marlins beat writer Juan C Rodriguez.  Our deepest condolences go out to Juan's family and friends."

A GoFundMe page was set up for Rodriguez's family.
