Mas, who is also Chairman of the Board of the company that deals in infrastructure construction projects, joins groups headed by former Yankees star Derek Jeter and Mitt Romney's son, Tagg, in the quest to buy the team from current owner Jeffrey Loria.

The AP also reports that former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has now joined the group led by Romney after previously leaving the Jeter group.

Thursday, Jeter met with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred in New York to discuss a possible sale, but the future Hall of Famer's group is thought to be short on funds when it comes to the reported asking price of $1.3 billion.

According to the Herald, Mas would contribute at least $200 million to the sale and has been looking to bring in other investors.

Mas is a familiar face in South Florida, serving as Chairman of the Board of the Cuban American National Foundation, as well as sitting on the board of overseers of the University of Miami School of Business.
