Dolphins get 'back to work' evaluating team, players

Gase, Tannenbaum, Grier hold end-of-season news conference

Coach Adam Gase, Executive VP of football Operations Mike Tannenbaum and GM Chris Grier hold the Dolphins' end-of-season news conference on Wednesday.

DAVIE, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins are getting back to work behind the scenes in order to build upon their playoff season under coach Adam Gase.

That was the clear message Wednesday in Davie, where the Dolphins held their end-of-season news conference.

The 'Fins made it to the postseason for the first time since 2008.

"We’re going to take the next couple of weeks to thoroughly evaluate our roster and that'll help set our game plan moving forward," executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum said.

Part of the game plan is handling the knee injury to Ryan Tannehill, who sprained his knee in December and missed four starts including the wild card game.

Asked if Tannehill will need surgery, head coach Adam Gase said he didn't know.

"We're working through that right now," Gase said. "Until we're told by our doctors and our medical staff, 'This is where we're at,' specifically, he's still going through a rehab stage right now and doing what he can do with the trainers. Our doctors are evaluating it. I've said it before. I don't have the information to tell you guys what's going on with where we exactly are at and what happens moving forward, so right now it's on our medical staff to give us the information we need going forward."

Gase also spoke about Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who was hired Wednesday to become the new head coach for the Denver Broncos.

"He has such a great personality and such a strong personality," Gase said. "He has that alpha -- I know we talked about it before -- that alpha-type personality where he demands a lot from players and they give him everything they have."

General manager Chris Grier said one of the biggest examples of the culture change that Gase brought to the team was players staying competitive week after week.

"They're competitive," Grier said. "So right from the get-go when he got here, I think the competitiveness, the way this team fought all year, coming back in games, I just think all of that is an attribute to Adam and his staff."

Gase said he's most proud of "our guys sticking together."

"Things weren't always perfect, especially at the beginning of the year," Gase said.

But he was proud of the "fight our guys had."
