"He is a player that we had targeted," Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said. "We love the pass rush that he can give us. It is a position that you can never have enough guys in the league, the way this game is played."

Grier said the team plans to play him as a rookie.

"We envision him being in the top four, and that is obviously why we picked him where we did," Grier said.

Miami passed on local players like Florida State running back Dalvin Cook and Miami Hurricanes tight end David Njoku, who were both available at the time the Dolphins selected Harris.

"We had two players targeted at 22 and he is one of the two," Grier said.
