Steelers WR Brown to honor Fernandez, Kimbo Slice vs. Dolphins

Miami-native to wear custom cleats Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium

MIAMI – Miami-native Antonio Brown plans to honor South Florida stars Jose Fernandez and Kimbo Slice when his Steelers face the Dolphins Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.

TMZ says the All-Pro wide receiver will wear specially-designed custom cleats showcasing images of both Fernandez and Slice.

Brown graduated from Miami Norland High School just down the road from the stadium.

Fernandez, the former Marlins ace pitcher, died with two others last month when the boat they were riding in crashed into a jetty off Miami Beach. His death shocked the South Florida community and Fernandez has been honored by the Heat, Panthers and Miami Hurricanes with helmet stickers and pre-game ceremonies.

Slice, who died of heart failure in June, was an MMA phenomenon who got his start as a combat street fighter while growing up in Miami.

Brown has previously honored Muhammad Ali and golf legend Arnold Palmer with custom cleats this season.

However, NFL officials have demanded that Brown remove the unapproved cleats during games.
