Taking part is as easy as logging onto www.beardathon.com/panthers and then growing out your beard or pledging family and/or friends to maintain their beard as long as the Cats remain in the playoffs.

The Beard-a-thon was launched in 2009 and it has raised over $3.5 million for hockey related charities.

NHL players traditionally grow playoff beards during their respective team's post-season run.

It is believed that this tradition was started in the 1980's by the four-time Stanley Cup Champion New York Islanders -- the same organization the Panthers are facing in the first round of the 2016 post-season.

The hair-raising campaign will benefit the Florida Panthers Foundation, which benefits the South Florida community by focusing on four priorities: building the game of hockey for children, supporting health and education initiatives for children, advocating for and supporting veteran's issues, and raising awareness about the team's endangered mascot, the Florida panther.
