Plesa Jr. has 'luck' on his side in Florida Derby

Itsmyluckyday looks to win million dollar race

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Every horseman knows they need luck on their side if they want to win a Grade 1 race.

Eddie Plesa Jr. has the luck factor covered.

The veteran trainer is saddling Itsmyluckyday in the $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.

Itsmyluckyday hopes to run back to his sparkling performance in the Holy Bull stakes at Gulfstream in January.

He out-dueled superstar horse Shanghai Bobby to take the Holly Bull.

Itsmyluckyday will face Shanghai Bobby again on Saturday. Those two along with Orb, the winner of the Fountain of Youth stakes, are expected to be the betting favorites in the field of ten.

Plesa Jr. told Local 10's Will Manso that the sky is the limit for Itsmyluckyday, even comparing the horse to a Miami Heat superstar. "If there is a LeBron James in my barn, this is him," Plesa Jr. said. "He's got the talent, no if ands or buts."

Elvis Trujillo will be in the irons on Itsmyluckyday on Saturday.
