Report: Marlins interview Mattingly

Former Dodgers manager considered frontrunner for vacant Marlins job

MIAMI ā€“ If Don Mattingly is the frontrunner to become the next manager of the Miami Marlins, the team is reportedly wasting little time to make it happen.

MLB.com reporter Joe Frisaro reported this morning that the Marlins are interviewing the former Dodgers manager on Monday.

Mattingly has been connected to the Marlins vacant job since he and the Dodgers parted ways on Oct. 22 following the disappointing end to the season of a team that held one of the highest payrolls in all of baseball.

After falling well short of expectations heading into the 2015 season, the Marlins relieved Dan Jennings of his managerial duties and asked him to return to his role of general manager.

Previous reports claim the Marlins have already interviewed former Padres and Phillies manager Larry Bowa on multiple occasions.

Despite leading the Dodgers to three postseason appearances since being hired in 2011, Mattingly failed to guide Los Angeles to a World Series despite the team's payroll reaching $800 million during his time in the dugout.

Frisaro also reported on Monday that the Marlins will not name a new manager until after this season's World Series.
