South Florida lacrosse team inches closer to state title

St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders 2 games away for playing for state title

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ The relatively new St. Thomas Aquinas lacrosse team is undefeated and two games away from capturing a state championship.

The team is 19-0 -- only two games have been even close. They are ranked No. 1 in the state.

The St. Thomas Aquinas Men's Varsity Lacrosse team is the only Florida school ranked nationally in a sport that has always been dominated by schools up in the northeast.

"It's chemistry. This is a group of kids that really get along," said head coach Terry Crowley.

The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders are just two games away for playing for the state title.

"Many of us have been playing together since we were 12 years old, something is really clicking right now and it's something to watch," said player JP Crowley.

The third round of the play offs is at 7 p.m. Saturday at St. Thomas against Barron Collier out of Naples.

The state championship is May 2 in Bradenton.
