PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. -

A University of Florida student returned home to Pembroke Pines after winning a gold medal at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Moscow.

Arman Hall began running track while attending St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale. Last week, he and his teammates won the 4x400 meter relay.

"As big as it was, I was not expecting it to be that big," he said Tuesday. "When I went to the track to run, I was just like wow, I'm finally here."

A growth spurt led to Hall, 19, breaking out during his junior year of high school. His journey culminated in lane one when he handed the baton to the anchor leg and watched his own dream unfold.

"At that moment, I was one of the happiest humans on this Earth," said Hall.

Hall returns to UF on Friday.
