MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins perfect team is finally getting recognized at the White House.
That team, which remains the only NFL team to win every game in a single season, will visit Washington on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

At a ceremony at the White House, President Obama will congratulate the 17-0 Dolphins for their amazing accomplishment.
Despite it's perfection, the Dolphins were never honored by President Richard Nixon and no one seems to know why.
In the Sun-Sentinel last year, quarterback Bob Griese told columnist Dave Hyde, "We were never invited that I know of."
Perhaps Nixon had other things to worry about about at the time? Remember Watergate was a full-blown news story during the years of the Dolphins "perfection."
Don Shula released a statement Tuesday night that read, "I'm honored that the accomplishments of the 1972 Dolphins are going to be recognized by the President with a ceremony at the White House. It is a very special occasion and I know it's something that all of us will enjoy and remember."
