It was recorded as a park on government documents, but the only thing Gratigny Plateau Park had that came close to a park was its name. It existed for 40 years as three barren parcels of land in northwest Miami-Dade County.
When Local 10 News discovered this undeveloped park, it set out to build it through partnerships with the private and public sector. Two years later, on Aug. 6, 2014, Gratigny Plateau Park officially opened, boasting a toddler playground, fitness stations and a butterfly garden.

Local 10 News and several other community partners were honored for their commitment and dedication to building the park.
Local 10 News reporter Glenna Milberg and community relations director Mayte Padron Cordones accepted a certificate of appreciation award on behalf of the news station during a county commissioners meeting.
The plan to build the park just south of Gratigny Parkway and west of Northwest Seventh Avenue took two years to complete due to lack of funding. But thanks to a host of volunteers and donors, the park is now open for the community's children in the Pinewood neighborhood.
