MIAMI – A Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee staffer suggested members needed to avoid supporting "concrete policy positions" around members of the Black Lives Matter movement, according to e-mails leaked on Wednesday.
A hacker known as Guccifer 2.0. claimed on his Word Press blogging site that the source of the memo was the personal computer of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
The BLM movement began about three years ago and has grown into about 20 chapters in the U.S. and Canada.
The DCCC memo referred to the movement as "radical" and asked members to limit the number of BLM attendees.
The BLM founders -- Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi -- say the movement advocates against police violence and systemic racism toward black people.
In the leaked e-mails, the DCCC staffer also suggested members avoid the phrases "all lives matter" and "black on black crime" so not to "anger" BLM members.
Meredith Kelly, the DCCC national press secretary, released a statement in response to the leak saying the organization "highly respects and values the leadership of " the BLM movement.
