Ben & Jerry's Cone Day proceeds to benefit homeless pets
"Cone Together" and support Broward County Animal Care and Adoption during FREE ice cream promotion
It’s the best of both worlds for ice cream-craving pet lovers — a yummy cone of Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia with the proceeds from donations going to help pets at the Broward County Animal Care and Adoption.
That’s exactly what will happen from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, during Ben & Jerry’s annual Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Shop in Sawgrass Mills Mall, 1800 Sawgrass Mills Circle.
Each customer will receive a free ice cream cone if they make a donation while at Ben & Jerry’s. At the end of the day, all proceeds will be given to Animal Care and Adoption in order to purchase medicine to care for homeless pets.
“Since 1979, Ben & Jerry’s has celebrated Free Cone Day in order to recognize their first year in business,” said Mike VanDerHeyden, owner of the Ben & Jerry’s Sunrise store. “In order to add even more meaning to the event, we are giving people the opportunity to help make a difference in their community by making a donation to Broward County Animal Care to support our local homeless pets with all of the proceeds going to that cause.”
“We are very appreciative to Ben & Jerry’s for this unique and fun way to make a difference,” said Lisa Mendheim, public education coordinator, Broward County Animal Care and Adoption. “The financial donation will be targeted to support the purchase of more medicine to care for the many dogs and cats in our Adoption Centers.”
Residents who would like to donate funds for medicine, but cannot participate in the Cone Day event, can visit broward.org/animal and click “Donate Today!” under ABOUT US.
Broward County’s Animal Care and Adoption is dedicated to providing shelter for lost and surrendered animals as well as the successful adoption of homeless pets. The agency also coordinates the registration of dogs and cats and provides rabies vaccinations to encourage a healthier pet population.
