A Miami-Dade cop shot and killed a family dog in Northwest Miami-Dade County after he claims the dog attacked him.
Police say the dog, a 3-year-old Dutch Shepherd named Basha, escaped from the yard of her home along Sixth Street and N.W. 128th Court and attacked the cop.

A witness who saw the incident, however, says the police version of the story does not match what she saw.
According to that witness, no one saw any attack or dog bite.
The dog's owner, Odalys Gonzalez, says she came home to find her dog was dead.
"I don’t know if he was a rookie or didn’t know what to do, but he had the opportunity to do things right," Gonzalez said.
She feels the officer could have called for back up if he was scared, or at least called animal control.
Gonzalez says Basha does not have a history of biting or attacking.
Police are releasing few details about what happened.
