On Veterans Day – November 11 – the country honors the brave men and women who have made tremendous sacrifices to protect our freedoms. Unfortunately, many veterans across the country are struggling with unemployment and homelessness, relying on others to come to their aid as they once did for their country. For such veterans, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is launching the Movers for Military program across Florida.
The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans estimates that in the United States more than 105,000 veterans are homeless on any given night, while 1.5 million more are considered at risk of homelessness due to poverty or lack of support. In Florida alone, as many as 19,000 veterans are homeless annually. With the introduction of Movers for Military, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® seeks to support those who gave of themselves.
Working in tandem with schools, including KLA School of Aventura, as well as other community organizations, more than 20 TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® franchise locations throughout Florida are collecting essential items for donation to local facilities providing critical support to veterans, including Volunteers of America of Florida veterans’ programs.
Volunteers of America of Florida, recognized by the Secretary of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs for its devoted and outstanding contributions to homeless veterans, offers over 400 homeless veterans a place to call home with supportive services that promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle and a spiritual sense of well being. With twelve locations serving veterans from Pensacola to Key West, Volunteers of America of Florida has helped Florida’s veterans successfully manage the transition from the armed services to civilian life for over 16 years.
This is the first year of Movers for Military, but TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® hopes to lay the foundation for an annual program that will raise awareness to the struggles many veterans face, while offering vital aid to those who require it. Collecting items for nearly 20 veterans’ housing programs across the state, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® hopes to donate more than 15,000 items in 2012.
In addition to its school partners, the moving company welcomes local businesses and organizations to join in the effort of bringing relief and comfort to veterans in need.
