The Humane Society of Broward County opened a pet friendly shelter in Tamarac as Tropical Storm Isaac approached.
The shelter will be at Millennium Middle School at 5803 Northwest 94th Avenue.
Anyone in evacuation zones and mobile homes who have pre-registered can report to the shelter with their pets at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Anyone who hasn't pre-registered can go to the shelter after 6 p.m. Saturday, although space is limited. People who haven't pre-registered will need:
- Valid proof of residence that you reside in an evacuation zone, such as an electric, water, or cable bill (driver's license will not be sufficient proof)
- Valid proof of rabies vaccination and license tag for your pets
- Name, address, and phone number of your veterinarian
No reptiles will be permitted at the shelter -- only dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, ferrets, and pocket pets.
