A fitness class in Fort Lauderdale is bringing Zumba to the pool.
The ocean side setting of the Harbor Beach Marriott offers a picture perfect backdrop for the water based workout.
"(I) love to dance. I love music and just seeing it made me want to do it," said Mae Lipensky.
"I love dancing. I love tanning. I can combine them together and work out at the same time, so I said why not," said Jessica Anaipakos.
"You don't have to know how to dance. You just come, you move your body, you follow my lead or whoever your instructor is, and you're good to go. You catch on," said Aqua Zumba instructor Paige Weinstein.
An Aqua Zumba workout offers a wide range of benefits, including cardio, toning, and flexibility.
"It's giving me more of a workout because of the resistance," said Lipensky. "On land, I can do this with my hands, but in the water, they don't want to come up."
"Also, with the buoyancy in the water, there's a lot less wear and tear when you're jumping up and down. It's a lower impact workout, so people recovering from injuries, it's going to be great for them, their bad knees or bad backs," said Weinstein.
Both beginners and hardcore fitness buffs can benefit from Aqua Zumba.
"I do running. I do free weights, I do Pilates and yoga, Cross-Fit, circuit training, and just to actually go to Zumba, it's just such a relief to do that because I don't have to worry about the weights and the equipment. You just shake your booty," said Anaipakos.
You can burn up to 500 calories in an Aqua Zumba workout.
