Planned Parenthood receives 'uptick' in donations
Komen Foundation drops plans to cut grants

The phones inside at the Miami offices of Planned Parenthood were ringing off with hook Friday after the Susan G. Komen Foundation dropped its plans to cut Planned Parenthood grants.
"We have had an uptick in our donations,” said Lilliam Tamayo, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Greater Miami, Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast. “We have been getting calls, website donations. Patients have come in, giving us gifts."
The phones began to ring Tuesday after the Susan G. Komen Foundation announced it was pulling funding from Planned Parenthood.
In 2011, Planned Parenthood provided 1,300 breast exams in South Florida. Komen funds are used at the Planned Parenthood in Palm Beach to provide breast exams for low-income patients.
"We have had a partnership with Komen for well over eight to nine years in South Florida," said Tamayo. "The initial decision was heartbreaking to imagine that women would be the ultimate victims of this decision."
No one from Komen’s South Florida office would comment.
