NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – All lanes of northbound Interstate 95 were closed for much of Monday morning after a child was killed in a crash in North Miami.
The northbound lanes of I-95 between Northwest 125th Street and Northwest 135th Street were closed for more than four hours.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said five people were taken to a hospital.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an 11-year-old boy, identified as Jean Ali Joshua Lindor, of Miami, died.
According to a crash report, a Nissan Altima and a Mack truck were involved in the crash about 8 a.m.
Trooper Joe Sanchez said everyone in the car was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where Lindor was pronounced dead. Three people, including the driver, are listed in critical condition.
The people in the vehicle have been identified as Nouse Andree Lacroix, 41, who was driving the vehicle, Denise Armond, 68, Diane Deborah Lindor, 13, and Matthew Lindor, 9.
Everyone inside the car was wearing their seat belts, the report said.
The truck driver was identified as Roberto Sanson, 49, of Miami. He was also wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
Traffic was backed up for miles as vehicles were being diverted off the highway.
Northbound express lanes reopened shortly before 12:45 p.m. from the downtown Miami entrance to the Golden Glades interchange.
Sanchez said the severity of the crash and the multiple vehicles involved took crews a longer period of time to clear.
