Woman, grandson unharmed after tree branches fall onto car

Branches from large oak tree fall onto driver's car in northwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A large oak tree fell onto a car Monday in northwest Miami-Dade County, but the driver and her grandson weren't injured. 

The incident took place near Northwest 22nd Avenue and Northwest 54th Street when the branches of the tree fell and hit the hood of the car, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokeswoman Erika Benitez said.

Although the vehicle was struck, the woman and her grandson were unharmed. 

Benitez said the crash is a reminder to drivers to avoid distractions while driving in order to avoid crashes. 

"In this case, the driver was aware of her surroundings and was able to stop just in time to prevent the tree from crushing the vehicle," Benitez said.
