Brush fire that shut down both lanes of Florida's Turnpike in Hialeah contained

HIALEAH, Fla. – A brush fire shut down both directions of Florida's Turnpike on Saturday morning in Hialeah. And while the fire was under control on Saturday night, firefighters were on alert due to windy conditions.

Hialeah Fire Department Capt. Cesar Espinosa said firefighters from the city assisted the Florida Forest Service battling the fire west of Northwest 107th Avenue.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, preventing them from spreading across the Florida Turnpike.

Espinosa said no homes or businesses were threatened, and no injuries were reported.

The Florida Highway Patrol said both directions of the turnpike were closed at mile marker 36 while firefighters worked to control the blaze.
