I-95 signs warn drivers not to jump express lane poles

Drivers face minimum fine of $179 for jumping poles

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ New signs along Interstate 95 warn drivers not to jump express lane poles unless they want to face a fine.

Sky 10 was above I-95 Thursday morning in Miami-Dade County and spotted signs that read, "Don't drive over plastic poles. Minimum fine $179."

The signs come as the Florida Department of Transportation began installing new poles Wednesday along the interstate in Miami-Dade County.

FDOT officials said the new poles will better divide the express lanes from the general-use lanes, and the space between each pole will be reduced from its current placement of 10 feet to 5 feet.

The FDOT and the Florida Highway Patrol hope that the more durable poles and their placements will dissuade drivers from illegally driving over the plastic poles.

Officials said the poles will be installed at night over the next 10 weeks.
