Man dies after ejected from car on I-75 at Sheridan Street

Woman taken to Jackson Memorial Hosptial

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. ā€“ One person was killed and another was injured Monday morning after a car crashed into a construction area on Interstate 75.

The fatal crash blocked all northbound lanes of traffic near Sheridan Street.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a driver was traveling north when their car struck a concrete drainage block that hadn't yet been buried. The car landed in the hole that had been dug for the concrete block after it had rotated and overturned, a crash report said.

"We hear accidents all the time back here, but this was bad," Nancy Helms, who heard the crash and lives in the area, said. "Like something is getting the hell torn out of it."

The car's engine rolled across the median after the impact, and other debris also went flying.

The man who was driving the car, identified as Jordan Ray Denis, 24, of Cooper City, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman was inside the car, Cynthia Seda, 22, of Cooper City, was airlifted to Memorial Regional Hospital with burns and later taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Burn Center. Her condition has not been released.

"I've lived here for 30 years, and it's just, traffic gets worse all the time," Helms said. "People going 80, 90 mph in a construction zone and you're going to have an accident."

It's unclear whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, but toxicology tests are pending.

Neither Denis or Seda were wearing their seat belts, according to the crash report.
