Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said the officer was originally trapped, but was eventually able to get out of the car on his own.

Authorities said the officer was off-duty at the time and struck something in the road or possibly hit the sidewalk, before he lost control of the vehicle.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no one else was injured.
