Rollover crash, garbage truck fire shut down portion of Florida's Turnpike

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A garbage truck fire and a rollover crash shut down two sections of Florida's Turnpike Thursday afternoon in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

The crash shut down southbound lanes of the Turnpike from just before the Cypress Creek toll plaza to Commercial Boulevard.

Sky 10 was above the scene and saw one vehicle rolled over on its roof. Gas canisters appeared to litter the streets.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said the driver, who is 56 and from Palm Beach County, was injured and was taken to Broward Health North.

Meanwhile, a garbage truck fire forced authorities to shut down northbound lanes of the Turnpike at Bird Road in Miami-Dade County.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky said three southbound lanes of the Turnpike north of Commercial Boulevard were reopened just after 6 p.m.
