5 injured during 3-vehicle crash on U.S. 1 in Monroe County

Authorities re-open southbound traffic after shutting U.S.1 down for hours

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A three-vehicle crash at the 116-mile stretch of U.S. 1 in Monroe County caused traffic delays on Saturday afternoon. 

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Felipe Lay said five were injured. A Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopter airlifted one to Jackson South Community Hospital and Key Largo Fire Rescue took the others to Marathon Hospital. 

Authorities blocked all of the southbound lanes when one of the three cars caught on fire about 2:20 p.m. They re-opened the road about three hours later.
