MIAMI -

Tropical Storm Nadine formed more than 20 days ago and has become among the top five longest-lasting cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean.

National Hurricane Center forecasters said Wednesday that Nadine is in fifth place on the all-time longevity list as either a depression, tropical storm or hurricane. The storm has been far from the U.S. since it formed.

Forecasters predict Nadine will fall apart before challenging for the top spot. That record is held by an unnamed storm from 1899, which hung around for nearly 28 days.

Nadine is expected to bring wind and rain to the Azores islands in the north Atlantic on Wednesday night or early Thursday. Its maximum sustained winds are 50 mph (80 kph).

Meanwhile, the 15th tropical depression of the season formed far out in the Atlantic.
