MIAMI -

On this date, what came to be known as the "Friday the 13th" avalanche killed 16 people on this date in 1899 in Alva, Utah. The avalanche also trapped 13 people for 12 hours before being rescued. Meanwhile, that day was also the coldest morning on record for the Gulf Coast. Tallahassee recorded -2 degrees to set a record low for the state of Florida.
