Strong thunderstorms cause isolated flooding

Nearly half foot of rain falls near 13th Street in Miami Beach

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Strong thunderstorms led to isolated flooding along West Avenue.

Residents near 13th Street could barely walk out of their homes after more than nearly half a foot of rain fell in the area.

"It's just a lot of work to get all of this water out of here," said Robert Cassanova.

Water flooded Cassanova's music room and the front yard of his house.

Neighbors also spent the day drying up the entrances to their apartments. One woman put a piece of plywood outside her door to keep the water out.

"They can't get out. They have to all the time use rubber boots or whatever to get in and out," said Carlos Ramos, who lives in a high rise near 13th Street. "I'm always watching from up there."

Low tides helped ease the flooding. There were no serious reports of damage.
