Tropical Depression #5 forms in Atlantic
NHC: System could soon become Tropical Storm Ernesto
Tropical Depression #5 formed in the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday afternoon, east of the Windward Islands, said the National Hurricane Center.
In the NHC's 5 a.m. advisory Thursday, the tropical depression was 565 miles east of the Windward Islands. It had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.
The depression was moving west at 21 mph.
The depression is expected to continue moving in the same direction over the next 48 hours. The system could become Tropical Storm Ernesto.
Tropical storm watches were issued in Barbados, St. Vincent, the Grenadines, Dominica, St. Lucia, Martinique, and Guadeloupe. The center of the tropical cyclone is expected to be near the Windward Islands on Friday.
