MIAMI -

Hurricane warnings and watches have been issued for Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and Belize as Tropical Storm Ernesto strengthened Monday morning.

In the NHC's  11 a.m. advisory Monday, Ernesto was about 190 miles east of Cabo Gracias a Dios on the Nicaragua-Honduras border, with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph with higher gusts. It was moving west at 9 mph.

The tropical storm is expected to make a gradual turn toward the west-northwest with a further decrease in forward speed during the next 48 hours. The center of will move north of the northeastern coast of Honduras late Monday.
