Meanwhile, Tropical Depression 6 forms more than 3,000 miles from Miami

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A tropical disturbance is headed to South Florida and bringing plenty of rain with it.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said the low-pressure system has a 30 percent chance of development over the next few days.

Local 10 News meteorologist Betty Davis said rain is expected throughout Thursday evening and into Friday.

As much as 2.25 inches of rain may be possible through Sunday morning, Davis said.

The system has a slightly better chance of developing once it moves across South Florida and into the warmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression No. 6 formed Thursday morning more than 3,000 miles away from Miami in the open Atlantic Ocean. It was moving northwest at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.

Local 10 News hurricane specialist Max Mayfield said the depression is forecast to become a hurricane.

The current track of the depression keeps it away from land.
